Massload Custom Load Pin Transducers are strain gauge load pins, engineered and manufactured to fit each customer’s specific load and support arrangement.
Available in any capacity, with mV/V, 4-20 mA, 0-10 V, and wireless output options.
Load pins go by many names — force-sensing clevis pins, lifting pins, weight pins, force pins, or shear pins — but they are all strain gauge transducers that measure force or weight directly at the connection point.
The most common application we see on our day to day is replacing the sheave pin or clevis pin of a lifting device. Because the load pin takes the place of an existing pin, it adds force measurement without adding headroom, minimizing or eliminating crane head space.
This makes load pins especially valuable in hoisting and tension load applications where space is limited, such as mine hoists, crane hook blocks, winches, and lifting frames.
They are widely used across the mining industry, material handling and crane modernization projects, and heavy lifting operations.
Typical accuracy is better than 1% of full scale, and 0.1% to 0.2% can be achieved with multi-point calibration.
For correct performance, pin loading must be in one direction only, side loading will reduce accuracy, so keeper plates are often employed to keep the load pin properly aligned.
Output options include standard mV/V, 4-20 mA for PLC-based systems, 0-10 V, and wireless transmission.
Load pins can be supplied with a sealed hard-wired cable connection for permanent installations, or with 4-pin military-style quick-disconnect connectors where the pin may need to be moved, repaired, or stored.
Quick-disconnect cables are available in 10 ft (3 m), 20 ft (6.1 m), and 50 ft (15.2 m) lengths, as well as custom length.
Remote displays with 2 in (5 cm), 4.5 in (11.4 cm), and 6.5 in (16.5 cm) lettering can mirror the indicator reading at distances of 50 ft (15 m) to over 300 ft (91 m).
We thrive on solving complex problems and applications that are far from standard.
Every Massload Custom Load Pin is made from the highest quality materials and manufactured in-house under our specialized Quality Management System.
Our team works directly with you to develop a load pin that meets all of your requirements, from initial concept through final calibration.
Each load pin is designed using the latest 3D modeling and FEA analysis technology, backed by more than 45 years of manufacturing experience and customers who keep coming back for their next project.
Most Common Applications: Sheave pin or clevis pin of lifting devices to add force measurement without adding headroom, mine hoist rope tension monitoring, crane hook blocks and crane modernization retrofits, winch line monitoring.
